Category: In The Community

The founders and recruiters of Newhouse + Noblin are active members in their respective communities, neighborhoods, schools, and churches. As a firm, we have a commitment to volunteer or make a monetary donation every month to a cause we care about. Whether it is making 500 sandwiches for the Soup Mobile in Dallas or collecting books for Houston school children, we feel it is important to share our resources. Some of the amazing charitable organizations that we have the privilege of supporting are highlighted below.

Newhouse + Noblin Supports SoupMobile

In October, Newhouse + Noblin’s Dallas team prepared and delivered 500 fresh sandwiches to the SoupMobile. SoupMobile is a Dallas based charity that not only strives to feed the area’s homeless with food, but to also “feed” them with love, caring, compassion and shelter. We have been privileged to help in this cause many times over the past two years, and thanks to the efforts of the SoupMobile and its volunteers, over 200,000 meals were provided last year to Dallas’ homeless.

New Friends New Life

In July, our Dallas office spent a day with several moms and their children at the New Friends New Life center. New Friends New Life is a faith-based organization that assists women in overcoming backgrounds of abuse, addiction, poverty, and limited opportunities by providing access to education, job training, interim financial assistance and spiritual support. Our team provided food, fun activities, and fellowship to a wonderful group of individuals committed to a New Life.

Yes Prep

This month our Houston team spent a day volunteering with Yes Prep students through the Yes Prep Professionals program. This program offers professionals an opportunity to get involved with Yes Prep students and the community in projects across Houston. At Yes Prep Public Schools, 80% of students come from low income neighborhoods. YES stands for “Youth Engaged in Service” and prepares students for college success by providing real-world experiences and teaching them about the value of community service. Ronald McDonald House

For its April service project, Newhouse + Noblin provided lunch to families staying in the Ronald McDonald House (“RMH”) locations in Dallas and Houston. Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. Often, it can be a long time to be away from home, or to divide a family. Even worse, for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having their mom and dad close by for love and support. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. All RMHs are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal, or where they will lay their head at night to rest. RMH relies on volunteers to provide meals to its occupants, so Newhouse + Noblin gladly purchased the supplies and its Dallas and Houston recruiter teams spent a fun morning preparing lunch and then serving approximately 100 family members at RMH. Supporting RMH is such a rewarding and fun experience. Click here to learn how you can help too.

Texas Food Banks

In February 2012, Newhouse + Noblin’s Dallas and Houston offices teamed up to support their respective cities’ food banks. Both teams of volunteers had a fun and rewarding day of sorting and packaging donated food for immediate delivery. The Houston Food Bank distributed nearly 70 million pounds of food items last year, feeding over 865,000 different people. Click here to learn more about how you can volunteer in Houston. The North Texas Food Bank likewise is a leading national member of the Feeding America Food Banks, providing access to nearly 90,000 nutritious meals each day. CenterPoint Energy’s Midstream Business Unit has filled two new positions with experienced lawyers in the last three years. In both cases, the candidates we ultimately hired were presented to us by Newhouse + Noblin. We know we can count on them to present well-researched, well-screened prospects.
