Newhouse + Noblin LLC.

Category: In The Community

The founders and recruiters of Newhouse + Noblin are active members in their respective communities, neighborhoods, schools, and churches. As a firm, we have a commitment to volunteer or make a monetary donation every month to a cause we care about. Whether it is making 500 sandwiches for the Soup Mobile in Dallas or collecting books for Houston school children, we feel it is important to share our resources. Some of the amazing charitable organizations that we have the privilege of supporting are highlighted below.

Community Partners of Dallas

On December 8th, Newhouse + Noblin participated in the Community Partners of Dallas‘ toy drive. Our team of volunteers spent a fun and rewarding day unloading trucks of donated toys, sorting items, and organizing the gifts for delivery before the holidays. Community Partners does an amazing job each year of rallying donors, gathering volunteers, and delivering hundreds of toys to abused and neglected children in Dallas. All of this is made possible through the generosity of Peacock Alley, which provides its warehouse to store the donated items and host the volunteers, in addition to providing the trucks and crews to pick up and deliver toys throughout the metroplex. Sincere thanks to Community Partners and Peacock Alley for letting us share in this wonderful cause!

Santo Clinic

In early November, Beth Walker and her Husband, Raymond, hosted a concert in their home featuring the band Brother of Pearl. The event benefitted Santo Clinic, a non-profit clinic in Port au Prince, Haiti. Santo Clinic was started just days after the 2010 earthquake. In the days following the earthquake, the clinic operated under tents and tarps with only basic medical supplies that had been carried into the country by volunteers. The clinic now operates in a new building in the Santo District of Port au Prince, providing free medical care to anyone in need. Sam’s Squad

In November, Newhouse + Noblin made a donation to Sam’s Squad, a group organized in support of a local 9-year old “superhero” named Sam, but more broadly designed to help fight Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy – the most severe form of the condition. Sam began life struggling to breathe and survive, and the odds were that he would never leave the hospital. But he did. Beginning at 9 weeks of age, Sam started treatment at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. Although Sam can now walk, his muscles are weak. So, when he needs to travel longer distances, he races around in an orange, manual wheelchair with wheels that light up as he rolls.

Sam overcame the odds and is now a fun-loving, sweet nine-year old kid who loves superheroes, Toy Story, music, movies, animals and his family. Sam is especially fond of his older brother, Will. Every day Sam continues to fight Muscular Dystrophy and beat the odds, always with great cheer and humor. That’s why we think of Sam as our superhero.

You can be a superhero too by joining Sam’s Squad and running or walking in the Dallas White Rock Marathon on December 4, 2011, volunteering, or making a donation to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation.

Newhouse + Noblin Supports SoupMobile

SoupMobile is a Dallas based charity that not only strives to feed the area’s homeless with food, but to also “feed” them with love, caring, compassion and shelter. As part of Newhouse + Noblin’s commitment to company-wide community service each month, we have formed teams to make sandwiches for delivery to the SoupMobile’s food trucks.

Typically, we prepare 500 fresh sandwiches and deliver them that same morning. We have been privileged to help in this cause many times over the past two years, and thanks to the efforts of the SoupMobile and its volunteers, over 200,000 meals were provided last year to Dallas’ homeless.

Advanced In-House Counsel Course

Kelly Noblin recently spoke at the Advanced In-House Counsel Course: “Reaching Calm Waters – Charting Your Course as In-House Counsel,” sponsored by the Texas Bar CLE. The over 100 attendees were mostly current in-house counsel who appreciated Kelly’s insight into current hiring trends and advice about doing more with less – a common theme for many legal departments. She highlighted how many departments are relying on contract attorneys to fill in gaps during hiring freezes or for employee leaves. Newhouse + Noblin’s practice support division, including its contract attorney recruiting services, has seen a significant spike in sustained activity since the onslaught of the 2008-2009 recession.

Clearly, in-house legal services don’t lessen during a recession; if anything, they increase. General Counsels feel the pressure to keep more work in-house, yet are often hamstrung with hiring freezes or other budget measures that prevent addition to headcount. Newhouse + Noblin can provide a solution by providing qualified contractors at a simple, reasonable hourly fee.
