In November our Houston team partnered with the Houston Bar Association for the 18th Annual HBA Book Drive. We collected book donations from several in-house teams and, together with those groups, facilitated the donation of over 20 boxes of books! The books will be donated to several literacy programs around Houston. Special thanks to Stibbs & Co., Sysco, Cooper Industries, Schlumberger and Linn Energy.
In October, Newhouse + Noblin’s Dallas team prepared and delivered 500 fresh sandwiches to the SoupMobile. SoupMobile is a Dallas based charity that not only strives to feed the area’s homeless with food, but to also “feed” them with love, caring, compassion and shelter. We have been privileged to help in this cause many times over the past two years, and thanks to the efforts of the SoupMobile and its volunteers, over 200,000 meals were provided last year to Dallas’ homeless.
In July, our Dallas office spent a day with several moms and their children at the New Friends New Life center. New Friends New Life is a faith-based organization that assists women in overcoming backgrounds of abuse, addiction, poverty, and limited opportunities by providing access to education, job training, interim financial assistance and spiritual support. Our team provided food, fun activities, and fellowship to a wonderful group of individuals committed to a New Life.
This month our Houston team spent a day volunteering with Yes Prep students through the Yes Prep Professionals program. This program offers professionals an opportunity to get involved with Yes Prep students and the community in projects across Houston. At Yes Prep Public Schools, 80% of students come from low income neighborhoods. YES stands for “Youth Engaged in Service” and prepares students for college success by providing real-world experiences and teaching them about the value of community service.
